Village in the woods [Wolpenkin lore]

Still going strong with my goal to paint more illustrations this year!

This is a piece I did to develop some lore about my Wolpenkins. They are crafty magical creatures that tend to live in secluded areas of the world.

Subspecies:
The common Wolpenkin are the winged ones. They are, as their name implies, the most common subspecies. They usually specialize as gatherers and take care of tasks that do not require much dexterity as their wings only have a clawed thumb. They cannot fly but they are capable of gliding short distances. The common Wolp will usually live higher up in the trees to leave the ground dwellings to the Jackalope subspecies and young ones that are not great climbers.

The Jackalope subspecies is slightly uncommon  but each village usually has a couple. They do not have wings, instead they have arms and human-like hands which allow them to take care of the tasks requiring more dexterity. Since Wolpenkins love pretty and colorful things, the Jackalopes can usually be found crafting rugs, blankets, clothing from silk spun thread dyed bright colors, jewelry from found trinkets, dried flower ornaments and so on. Since they spend most of their time in the village they end up taking care of the young ones the most, although caring for the younlings is overseen by the entire village.

The last subspecies of Wolpenkin is known as a Hybrid. This is a Wolp that is born with both arms and wings, a very rare occurrence. Because they are so rare they are idolized by the other Wolps, almost revered as deity. Some will embrace their status and rule the village as king/queen but most eventually leave to live in solitude, overwhelmed by the others.

Villages:
This is what a typical village in a forest setting would look like. Burrows and tree dwellings with a center area, preferably a stump or a rock, though any large flat surface area can do. Wolpenkins form tight-knit groups of 5-10 called a Village. Each villager specializes in a task that helps the village run, but once those responsibilities have been taken care of Wolps can usually be found crafting. It is common for a Village to specialize in creating one item(this one here seems to be good at crafting rugs for example), which they will trade with other neighboring villages for their special item or supplies.

General:
Although Wolps are capable of minor magic they rarely use it. They will use it to communicate with other species(like humans) by conjuring images in their mind. Otherwise they use a variety of squeaks and growls as well as body language to communicate between each other. They prefer working with their hands(or wings) instead of relying on magic because of the satisfaction it yields.
They lead an aloof life, usually with very little to worry about for the most secluded Villages. They do not cope well with stress and will definitely run off and hide if they are threatened. It is extremely rare for a Wolp to stand up and fight an aggressor.
Wolpenkin are capable of learning skills and techniques but overall they aren't super intelligent, which is fine by them since they prefer a quiet, simple lifestyle. 
Younglings are the responsibility of the entire village, not just the biological parents. Every Villager will play a part in raising the young ones. Younglings are usually born with a brown, beige or green coat and no horns, their adult colors only start showing later on. Younglings are born in litters of 2 to 4. (Will probably do a piece on younglings alone at some point)
On average a Wolpenkin lives between 7 to 10 years, though it is rumored that some are much, much older than this.
